"Toxic Avenger" Adds Taylor Paige to the star-studded cast.

Hello everyone my name is Jared and welcome to Slash It. If you haven’t heard of “Toxic Avenger” before I would stop what you are doing at this moment and check it out. It’s about a man who falls into a vat of toxic waste and becomes the toxic avenger. Afterward, he becomes his town’s own personal superhero and bad guys of all kinds attack him. As Hollywood does nowadays, they have decided to reboot this series with producers Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, from Troma, set to produce. At first, this movie would seem incredibly low budget considering the original’s budget was an estimated five hundred thousand dollars. That’s when the news broke that Jacob Tremblay ( “Luca”, ‘Wonder”) would be joining the cast. For a horror movie reboot, getting an actor with huge potential is surprising. His work in the hit 2015 film “Room” gives me great hope for his character in “Toxic Avenger”. The biggest surprise was waiting just around the corner as Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones'', “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) would be joining the cast of this film. That news alone was thrilling considering just how great an actor he is and what he could bring to the table. The chemistry these two could bring to the screen may just put horror movies back into the eye of the Academy.



The casting of this movie already seemed fully charged when on May 3rd Taylor Paige (“Zola”, “Ma Rainey's Black Bottom”) was brought in as the female lead. Taylor started her film career as a backup dancer for “Highschool Musical 3” before securing her first tv role as Theresa in the show “Ballers”. She would go on to star in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Zola”; Ma Rainey’s released in 2020 and currently has 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. “Zola” which hasn’t premiered yet, is set to release in June of 2021 and currently has a score of 89%.


The casting for this movie seems to be fully studded for a reboot of a movie that is a cult classic. It spawned three sequels and at its peak was a short-lived Marvel comic book series. While this franchise stayed under the surface for many years, the casting of this movie leads me to believe that we may see a rise in the popularity of the “Toxic Avenger”.
